KIEV, April 12 (Xinhua) -- Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko and his Azerbaijan's counterpart Ilham Aliyev have agreed to deepen the strategic partnership between their countries during a phone call on Thursday, Poroshenko's press service said.
During the talks, Poroshenko congratulated Aliyev on his victory in the presidential election, according to a statement posted on the Ukrainian presidential website.
The two leaders discussed preparations for the 12th meeting of the Intergovernmental Ukrainian-Azerbaijani commission on economic cooperation and other bilateral events in strategically important areas, it said.
Particular focus was paid to the organization of the 6th meeting of the Council of Presidents of Ukraine and Azerbaijan within the framework of Aliyev's planned visit to Kiev, the statement said.
Besides, Poroshenko and Aliyev agreed to open the Trade House of Azerbaijan in the Ukrainian capital, it said.
Bilateral trade between Ukraine and Azerbaijan has almost tripled in 2017 to 770.4 million U.S. dollars, official data showed.
