Traditional Chinese medicine center opens in Germany's Hanover

HANOVER, Germany (Xinhua) -- A center of Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) opened Friday in Hanover, Germany, aiming to promote the integrative use of TCM and modern medicine.

Initiated by the China Academy of Chinese Medical Sciences (CACMS), the German-Chinese Center for Integrative Chinese Medicine was also sponsored by the German-Chinese Society of Medicine, Hanover Medical School (MHH) and the Chinese pharmacist Tasly Group.

It is located at the rehabilitation center of the MHH.

At the opening ceremony on Friday, Zhu Haidong, deputy director of the international cooperation department of China's State Administration of TCM, said the center is a key result of China-Germany cooperation in health sector, and also an important step for the internalization of TCM.

Prof. Hermann Haller, member of the school board of the MHH, said the founding of the center is a milestone for exchanges between Germany and China. He hoped that TCM will take root in Germany.

The center now focuses on research in acupuncture, gynecological diseases and kidney diseases. The TCM-modern medicine integrative rehabilitation therapies have already been introduced in clinical treatment.

The center is also working for the two-way TCM training for both German and Chinese doctors.

Huang Luqi, academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering and executive vice president of CACMS, expected that the center will be developed as a demonstration for overseas TCM centers with joint efforts by all parties, and more achievements will be made in China-Germany cooperation in TCM.
