KIGALI, June 23 (Xinhua) -- Some 7000 students took part in different sporting disciplines organized by Rwanda National Olympic and Sports Committee to mark World Olympic Day on Saturday in Huye district, southern Rwanda.
The event attracted pupils from 16 primary and secondary schools across the central African country. It featured football, basketball and volleyball, among others.
The Rwanda National Olympic and Sports Committee in its message urged Rwandans to discover sports people, lead healthy and active lives, and promote the role of sport in society and embrace Olympic values.
This year marks 70th anniversary of Olympic Day. The Olympic Day was initiated in 1948 in commemoration of the founding of the International Olympic Committee on June 23, 1894.
