COLOMBO, July 4 (Xinhua) -- The Sri Lankan government on Wednesday approved to set up a committee to implement the "Clean Air 2025 Action Plan" to maintain the air quality in Sri Lanka in the coming years.
Cabinet Spokesperson Rajitha Senaratne said that following a proposal made by President Maithripala Sirisena in his capacity as the Minister of Mahaweli Development and Environment, the cabinet decided to appoint a monitoring committee and a technical committee for the supervisory and regulatory activities of this project.
Sri Lanka has been maintaining a higher air quality compared to other South Asian countries due to the stringent vehicle emission testing program the island nation initiated in 2008.?
