LUSAKA, July 5 (Xinhua) -- Zambia's soccer governing body on Thursday officially announced that it had appointed Sven Vandenbroek as coach of the national soccer team.
The Belgian will be unveiled to the media next Tuesday and formally be introduced to the Ministry of Sports on Monday, according to Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) acting secretary-general, Adrian Kashala.
"We are delighted to announce the appointment of Sven Vandenbroek as our national team coach. Sven was the top choice of those that were considered. We have confidence that he should be able to deliver to the expectations of FAZ, the team and people of Zambia because Sven's record and experience in Africa is very good," he said in a statement.
Sven's immediate mandate is to qualify the Chipolopolo to the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations, he added.
Vandendroek, who was the assistant coach of Cameroon national team, has signed a nine-month deal to replace Wedson Nyirenda who resigned recently.
