RIO DE JANEIRO, Dec. 28 (Xinhua) -- Brazilian President Michel Temer on Thursday announced the cancellation of a New Year trip over health concerns.
The president and his family were scheduled to spend the New Year holiday in a naval base on the coast of Rio de Janeiro state.
However, the base was deemed to lack sufficient medical support, and the president decided to remain in the capital city Brasilia for the time being.
Temer underwent a surgery on the urethra two weeks ago. According to local media, he was expected to use a catheter for three weeks.
It was not the first time that the 77-year-old president went through a surgery this year. In October, he was admitted to the hospital for a few days and underwent a surgery due to an enlargement of the prostate.
In November, Temer received angioplasty to deal with blockages in three coronary arteries.
