ISLAMABAD, Jan. 26 (Xinhua) -- A suspected robber was killed in a police encounter, while 31 others were arrested in various raids conducted in Pakistan's southern port city of Karachi on Friday, local media reported.
The robber was killed in an exchange of fire with a police patrolling team in Ittehad Town area of the city, officials said, adding that the law enforcers also recovered weapons and looted valuables from the scene. Police also arrested his accomplice during the operation.
The identity of the slain robber is yet to be confirmed by the police officials.
Separately, police rounded up 31 suspects in various early morning raids across the city.
Police conducted a search operation in North Nazimabad, Buffer Zone, Liaquatabad and Ajmer Nagri areas of Karachi and arrested 26 criminals and recovered unlicensed weapons and bullets from their possession. The miscreants have been shifted to an undisclosed location for further investigation.
In another raid in Orangi Town and Pirabad areas of the city, police nabbed four street criminals and seized a weapon and ammunition from their possession.
Moreover, a robber was arrested in an injured condition while his accomplice managed to flee from the scene following a gun fight with police.
Police say that the street criminals were robbing a rickshaw driver when an exchange of fire took place between them and the suspects.
