Road accident kills 6 in India

NEW DELHI, Jan. 26 (Xinhua) -- At least six people were killed and five others injured Friday after an overloaded goods truck overturned and fell on two cars in northern Indian state of Uttar Pradesh, police said.

The accident took place near Khander on Bah-Etawah in Agra district, about west of Lucknow, the capital city of Uttar Pradesh.

"Today in a tragic road accident a goods truck overturned and fell on two cars moving alongside it here in Fatehabad, killing six people including two women," a police official posted in Agra said.

"In the accident, five others were also injured and they were immediately removed to the emergency ward of SN Medical College."

The cause of accident was not known immediately. However, witnesses told police the speeding goods truck lost balance and fell over on two cars.

Police have registered a case and ordered investigations to ascertain actual reason behind the accident.

Deadly road accidents are common in India often caused by overloading, bad condition of roads and reckless driving.

According to an official report released recently, on average India witnessed over 400 deaths in road accidents every day during 2016. Enditem
