Chinese shares close lower Monday

BEIJING, April 2 (Xinhua) -- China's major stock indices closed lower on Monday, ending a two-day winning streak.

The benchmark Shanghai Composite Index went down 0.18 percent to close at 3,163.18 while the smaller Shenzhen Component Index ended 0.14 percent lower at 10,852.95.

Combined turnover on the two bourses stood at 574 billion yuan (91.4 billion U.S. dollars), up from 496.8 billion yuan the previous trading day.

More than 1,500 shares slumped among the two bourses.

Shares in cement and coal mining sectors were among the biggest losers, with Taiyuan Lionhead Cement, and Anhui Hengyuan Coal Industry and Electricity Power slumping by the daily limit of 10 percent and 1.52 percent, respectively.

Bucking the trend, gold-related shares registered gains. Western Region Gold, for example, saw its share price up 9.98 percent.

Shares related to autonomous driving also gained, with Shenzhen Roadrover Technology surging by the daily limit of 10 percent to 31.85 yuan.

The ChiNext Index, which tracks China's NASDAQ-style board of growth enterprises, lost 0.01 percent to close at 1,900.25.
