JAKARTA, April 3 (Xinhua) -- Indonesia's top men's doubles badminton players, who recently came out on top at the All-England badminton tournament, have set a gold medal target for the Asian Games this year.
Kevin Sanjaya/Marcus Gideon said that they are ready and well-prepared for competition in the regional sport event.
"We must be optimistic, but we will not be too excessively so. The target is a gold medal," said Kevin.
The badminton players said that support from Indonesian President Joko Widodo has strengthened their motivation and confidence for the achievement of the best possible position at the Games.
In the months to come, the pair is set to play in several tournaments preceding the Asian Games.
"There will be many tournaments which we must play in. Our exercise routine remains unchanged, six times a week. We will warm up for the Asian Games," he said on Monday evening.
Badminton players from South Korea, China, Japan, and Thailand are among the top opponents in the Games, they said.
The 18th Asian Games are scheduled to be held in the Indonesian capital of Jakarta and in Palembang, the provincial capital of South Sumatra province from August 18 to September 2.
