JERUSALEM, April 27 (Xinhua) -- The Israeli military said Friday that 10,000 Palestinians have participated in the anti-Israel rally across the Gaza Strip.

This is the fifth round of weekly protests for Palestinians to gather on the Gaza border with Israel. Gaza's Health Ministry said one was killed and three others wounded by Israeli gunfire while trying to breach the border, adding that two others were killed in clashes with Israeli security forces.

"Hundreds of rioters attempted to infiltrate into Israeli territory and burn the security fence adjacent to the Karni Crossing in northern Gaza Strip," said the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) in a statement.

"The rioters approached the security fence and hurled explosive devices, grenades, firebombs and rocks and tried to light the security fence on fire. In response, IDF troops acted in accordance with the rules of engagement and thwarted the attempted infiltration," said the IDF.

"The IDF acts to protect Israeli civilians and will not allow harm to be done to the security infrastructure that protects them," added the Israeli army.

During the weekly demonstrations, 35 protesters, including two journalists, have been killed by Israeli live fire, Israeli media quoted Hamas figures' as reporting.

In addition, Israeli security forces arrested two West Bank Palestinians who tried to enter Israel with a pipe bomb on Thursday night, the Israeli police said.
