NEW DELHI, June 2 (Xinhua) -- India's Bollywood actor and filmmaker Arbaaz Khan Saturday admitted that he used place bets on Indian Premier League (IPL) matches last year, local media reports said.

Khan made the confession while recording his statement at a police station in Thane of Maharashtra state.

Khan was summoned by police in connection with the alleged IPL betting racket.

IPL is multi-billion-dollar cricketing tournament played in India.

Khan reportedly told police he had lost 410,583 U.S. dollars in IPL betting last year and claimed to have not placed any bet in this year's edition.

The 11th edition of IPL was last week won by Chennai Super Kings (CSK) team after defeating Sunrisers Hyderabad team of the neighboring Andhra Pradesh state by eight wickets in the final match.

Khan, during police interrogation, has confessed that he knows Sonu Jalan alias Sonu Malad, who is believed to be one of the top bookies in the country, for six years.

Police's anti-extortion cell (AEC) busted the racket last month with the arrest of four people in Mumbai, including Jalan.
