MANILA, June 8 (Xinhua) -- Eighty-six passengers and crew were unhurt when the passenger plane they were aboard overshot a runway at an airport in Coron, Palawan, on Friday afternoon, Philippine airport authorities said.
In a statement, the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) said Skyjet flight M8 717 figured in a "runway excursion at the end of the runway east side of the aerodrome beyond the fence."
The plane was carrying 80 passengers and six crew, the CAAP said.
Coron is a picturesque island in Palawan, a province facing the South China Sea.
Skyjet Arilines is relatively new among domestic carriers in the Philippines. Aside from Coron, it also flies to Siargao in southern Philippines, Batanes off north of Philippine Luzon Island, and Boracay in the central Philippines.
As a result of the accident, authorities said a number of domestic flights were cancelled.?
