China wins three golds on first day of taekwondo China Open

XI'AN, China, June 8 (Xinhua) -- Chinese players won all the three titles on the first day of 2018 "Belt and Road" China Open International Taekwondo Championship at Xi'an city park here on Friday night.

In the men's 58kg final, China's Liang Yushuai took a comeback victory. His opponent South Korea's Jang Jun took a five-point lead at the very beginning through his fierce attack but Liang equalized at last 20 seconds. In extra time, Liang hit first and claimed the title.

The women's 67kg final witnessed a duel between Zhou Zeqi and Yu Xiaohui, who are all from China's national team. Zhou Zeqi triumphed over Yu 8-4 with solid defence and faster pace.

Song Guodong lifted men's 68kg title after beating his compatriot Chen Bolin 12-7.

The China Open, an accumulating points tournament of 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games, has attracted an entry of some 260 from five countries and regions with sixteen men and women's categories. China's Zhao Shuai and Zheng Shuyin, winners at the Rio Olympic Games, are also attending the tournament.

It is the second straight year that Xi'an of Shaanxi Province to hold taekwondo China Open. China grabbed 15 gold medals out of all the sixteen categories last year.

"With the experience of last year, this year's competition will sure be exciting. I believe that China Open will serve to upgrade the quality of taekwondo in China and worldwide on both the grassroots and elite levels," said Guan Jianmin, President of China Taekwondo Federation.
