RABAT, July 23 (Xinhua) -- The Moroccan police arrested on Monday a Lithuanian national at Mohammed V International Airport in Casablanca for attempted cocaine trafficking.
The 23-year-old suspect was arrested after police searched his luggage and found some 8.53 kg of cocaine carefully concealed inside steel and plastic boxes, the police said in a statement.
The police also seized hundreds of counterfeit euros with the suspect, it added.
The suspect was placed in police custody at the disposal of the investigation carried out under the supervision of the competent prosecutor's office, it noted.
Morocco seized a record of 2.84 tons of cocaine in 2017, 1.5 tons more than the amount seized in 2016.
