NANJING, China, Aug. 4 (Xinhua) -- Team China has already secured at least one gold medal at the 2018 BWF World Championships here on Saturday, as Wang Yilyu and Huang Dongping beat a pair from the Hong Kong SAR to set up a final against teammates Zheng Siwei and Huang Yaqiong.
The second-seeded duo needed only 30 minutes to cruise past third seeds Tang Chun Man and Tse Ying Suet 21-6, 21-10. In the other semifinal held later, top seeds Zheng and Huang Yaqiong came from one game down to overcome another home pair, Zhang Nan and Li Yinhui, 19-21, 21-12, 21-10.
Zheng and Huang Yaqiong paired up late last year, but have won all their previous four clashes against Wang and Huang Dongping. The recent one was in the final of the Malaysia Open last month, where they defeated their compatriots 21-19, 21-18 to clinch their second title of 2018.
"We are familiar with them (Zheng and Huang Yaqiong), the final result will depend on which pair have better form," Wang Yilyu said. The 24-year-old and his partner Huang Dongping won the Asian title in Wuhan in late April, which may boost their confidence in winning the World title on home soil.
