Most powerful typhoon in 25 years makes landfall in Japan

TOKYO, Sept. 4 (Xinhua) -- Typhoon Jebi, the most powerful typhoon in Japan in 25 years, struck western Japan on Tuesday afternoon, making landfall in the southern part of Tokushima Prefecture, the weather agency here said Tuesday.

The powerful typhoon has heavily disrupted transportation services, causing flights and rail services to be canceled, as well as some commercial facilities' operations.

Typhoon Jebi was packing winds of up to 216 km per hour with an atmospheric pressure of 950 hectopascals at its center as of 11 a.m., local time the Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA) said.
