BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN, Sept. 8 (Xinhua) -- Timor-Leste booked their ticket to the 2018 ASEAN Football Federation (AFF) Championship after winning their qualifier against Brunei 3-2 on aggregate on Saturday evening.
After a 3-1 loss to Timor-Leste in the first leg on September 1, Brunei had to work hard to overhaul the two-goal deficit and seize their final chance to qualify.
With the hosts needing to push for goals, Timor-Leste concentrated on defense in order to maintain their two-goal advantage in the first half of the game at the Hassanal Bolkiah National Stadium.
After wasting several opportunities, the hosts finally scored from a corner. However, one goal was not enough for Brunei to stop Timor-Leste from winning the qualifier 3-2 on aggregate.
The 2018 AFF Championship, also known as the 2018 AFF Suzuki Cup, is a biennial competition. A total of 10 teams will vie for this year's trophy from November 8 to December 15.
Timor-Leste will join Thailand, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Myanmar, Vietnam, Cambodia and Laos to make up the final field of 10 nations. Enditem
