NEW DELHI, Sept. 10 (Xinhua) -- A medium-intensity earthquake hit the northern Indian state of Uttar Pradesh Monday, with tremors being felt in the national capital, authorities said.

The 3.6-magnitude earthquake occurred in the state's Meerut district this morning.

The quake struck 6 km from Kharkhauda in Meerut, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

Fortunately, there have been no casualties or damage to properties, an official said.

The latest quake came barely 24 hours after another 3.8-magnitude hit the northern state of Haryana's Jhajjar district on Sunday, with tremors being felt in Delhi and adjoining areas.
