TOKYO, Sept. 21 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks opened higher on Friday as investor sentiment was bolstered by a new record high overnight set by the Dow Jones Industrial Average.
As of 9:15 a.m., the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average gained 128.64 points, or 0.54 percent, from Thursday to 23,803.57.
The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, added 9.34 points, or 0.52 percent, at 1,796.94.
Insurance, real estate, and consumer credit-oriented issues comprised those that gained the most in the opening minuets from the morning bell.
