BEIRUT, Sept. 29 (Xinhua) -- Lebanese caretaker Minister of Displaced Affairs Mouin Merhebi announced on Saturday that 4,100 Syrian refugees have returned to their home country from Lebanon since June.

The movement at the border crossing between Lebanon and Syria registers a yearly entry and exit activity of up to 1.8 million Syrians, Merhebi was quoted by Elnashra, an independent online newspaper, as saying.

The figures were sourced from reports released regularly by Lebanon's General Security directorate, the Lebanese minister told Xinhua.

Some Syrians returned home without registering their names, he added.

Lebanon is hosting 976,000 registered Syrian refugees according to the UN High Commissioner for Refugees, while the government estimates the true number of Syrian refugees in the country at 1.5 million.
