BERLIN, Oct. 7 (Xinhua) -- Eintracht Frankfurt snatched their third consecutive win in all competitions after edging wasteful Hoffenheim 2-1 in the 7th round of Bundesliga on Sunday.
The "Eagles" staged a clinical chance conversion to secure the three points at Hoffenheim, who gave away a number of chances to suffer their fourth loss from seven games in the league.
Both sides started offensively minded into the encounter but as the match progressed Hoffenheim dictated the pace on the pitch.
However, the hosts had to wait until the 29th minute to create their first promising chance as Leonardo Bittencourt headed the ball to the woodwork from inside the box.
The "TSG" remained on the front foot and worked out their next opportunity 10 minutes later when Kerem Demirbay rattled the bar with an effort from sharp angle.
The hosts' wastefulness got punished later as Luka Jovic intercepted a throw in before passing into the path of Ante Rebic, who overcame onrushing Hoffenheim goalkeeper Oliver Baumann to break the deadlock.
After the restart, things got from bad to worse for Hoffenheim as Frankfurt doubled the lead with their next chance. Baumann parried a shot on target but allowed Luka Jovic to slot home the rebound from 14 meters in the 46th minute.
Frankfurt's Rebic weakened his team after receiving his marching orders for his second bookable offence in the 66th minute. The dismissal sparked hopes and Hoffenheim increased the pressure but neither Demirbay nor Ishak Belfodil was able to make the most of their chances.
The host's efforts eventually paid off in the closing period when Reiss Nelson shrugged off two defenders to slot home his solo run from close range. Julian Nagelsmann's men gained momentum but Frankfurt goalkeeper Kevin Trapp denied Belfodil's header on target in the dying seconds of the game.
With the result, Frankfurt climbed from the 11th to the 7th spot and Hoffenheim slipped to the 13th position in the standings.
Elsewhere, Freiburg and Bayer Leverkusen shared the spoils following a goalless stalemate.
The draw moved Freiburg to the 12th place and Leverkusen stay on the 14th place.
