BUENOS AIRES, Oct. 11 (Xinhua) -- Argentina secured its second gold medal of the 2018 summer Youth Olympics on Thursday when Agustina Roth and Inaki Iriartes tied for first in the BMX freestyle mixed team event.

Roth finished second in the women's final with 74.00 points, 9.66 points behind Germany's Lara Lessmann. Japan's Kanami Tanno was third, three points behind Roth.

In the ensuing men's final, Iriartes took the honors with an overall score of 83.33, just ahead of Germany's Evan Brandes, who ended with 82.00 points.

The result left Argentina and Germany tied for top spot, meaning all four competitors were awarded gold medals.

"I'm very happy, we gave our best and won the medal. We come from a street scene, where we don't have any rules. But it's a pride to take part in the Olympic Games. And also to be able to share it with very talented girls," Iriartes said.

Roth paid tribute to Lessmann, whom she conceded was too good on the day.

"She's incredible and has a special talent," Roth said. "I couldn't beat her. I tried to be close so that there would be a chance of winning a medal. The fans helped me when I needed support to do another trick. Now I'm very happy and I thank the support of the people."

BMX will make its debut at the senior Olympic Games in Tokyo 2020.

Argentina's first gold medal of the 2018 Youth Olympics was won by rower Sol Ordas in the girls' single sculls event on Wednesday.
