SUVA, Oct. 15 (Xinhua) -- A heavy rain alert is now in force for land areas of Fiji including the Yasawa, Mamanuca islands and the eastern parts of Viti Levu, the biggest island in Fiji, causing the closure of several roads in the country.
The heavy rain is due to a trough of low pressure lying slow moving over the Fiji islands and it is expected to affect the country for the next few days. For those affected areas, there will be occasional rain, heavy at times and few thunderstorms.
There will be frequent and heavy rain from Tuesday. Localized heavy falls may lead to flash flooding in low lying areas.
The Fiji Roads Authority(FRA) has confirmed that seven roads in the central division are closed due to flooding.
The FRA urged Fijians to take extra precaution while travelling around the central division which includes five provinces of Naitasiri, Namosi, Rewa, Serua and Tailevu.
The FRA also reminded drivers of not enter into waters of unknown depth and current due to flooding.
