NEW DELHI, Oct. 24 Xinhua) -- A passenger boat carrying government officials capsized Wednesday in India's western state of Maharashtra, officials said.
Most of the passengers have been rescued by the coast guard personnel. Reports said the boat was carrying senior government officials of Maharashtra.
"The boat carrying Chief Secretary and other senior officials capsized near the proposed Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj memorial, about 2.6 km west of Mumbai's Nariman point," local media reported by quoting officials.
Following the boat accident, coast guard personnel rushed rescue boats and helicopters to the spot to carry out rescue efforts.
"Coast guard boats and helicopters have reached the spot and rescue work is going on," an official said. "Most of the people have been rescued."
As per reports, 25 people were onboard when the boat hit rocks and capsized.
