Botswana to host African tennis cup

GABORONE, Nov. 4 (Xinhua) -- Botswana Tennis Association (BTA) will next week host the biggest tennis competition in the continent, the African Nation Cup, featuring at least 13 countries.

The competition, which is being played in singles, doubles and team events, starts on Nov. 5 at the national tennis center in the capital Gaborone and ends Nov. 10.

Countries featuring in the tournament are hosts Botswana, South Africa, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Kenya, Sierra Leone, Burkina Faso, Tunisia, Madagascar, Comoros, Morocco, Gabon and the Democratic Republic of Congo.

Each country is allowed a maximum of 3 male and 3 female players.

However, Botswana as host has been allowed to field 5 male and 5 female players.

The men's singles champion will pocket 1 800 U.S. dollars while the runner-up will get 1,100 dollars.

The women's singles champion will on the other hand pocket 1,100 dollars while the runner-up gets 750 dollars.

The male doubles champion will get 600 dollars while the women's doubles champion will get 400 dollars.

Winners of the male team event will get 2,400 dollars while winners of the women's team event will get 1,600 dollars.

The competition will also carry International Tennis Federation ranking points.
