TOKYO, Nov. 5 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks closed lower Monday amid investor consternation about U.S.-China trade tensions resurfacing after conflicting reports about Washington drafting a trade deal.
The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average dropped 344.67 points, or 1.55 percent, from Friday to close the day at 21,898.99.
The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, lost 18.37 points, or 1.11 percent, to finish at 1,640.39.
Oil and coal product, miscellaneous product, and wholesale trade-oriented issues comprised those that declined the most by the close of play.
