TEHRAN, Dec. 26 (Xinhua) -- Iran confirmed on Wednesday its talks with the Taliban group in Afghanistan to help relieve insecurity in the country, Press TV reported.
"A series of contacts and talks with the Taliban group have taken place with the knowledge of the Afghan government," said Ali Shamkhani, secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council.
"That trend will continue," Shamkhani added.
He made the remarks during a one-day visit to Afghanistan at the invitation of Hamdullah Mohib, national security adviser of the Afghan president.
The Iranian official highlighted the need to establish "mechanisms based on constant consultations" and "the active participation of regional countries in security processes" to guarantee sustainable stability and growth for regional nations.
