MAIMANA, Afghanistan, Jan. 7 (Xinhua) -- At least 14 militants were confirmed dead and nine others injured as fighting aircrafts pounded Taliban hideouts in Almar district of Faryab province in Afghanistan on Sunday, a statement of army released here said Monday.
The airstrikes, according to the statement, were conducted against Taliban hideouts in several villages of Almar district on Sunday afternoon and besides killing 14 insurgents and injuring nine others, the militants' several trenches and weapon caches were also destroyed.
Taliban militants who are active in parts of the restive Faryab district and posing threats to provincial capital Maimana have not commented.
