BANGKOK, Jan. 16 (Xinhua) -- Eight Thai people have been arrested on charge of running online betting with foreign soccer games, said Immigration Bureau Commissioner Pol. Lt. Gen. Surachate Hakparn on Wednesday.
The suspected bettors had allegedly run a website named www.i99bet.net, owned by Kritaphop Seethammarat, for their clients to bet on foreign soccer matches online, the commissioner said.
Such online betting racket has allegedly been carried out for about two years with more than 200 million baht (about 6 million U.S. dollars) at stake, Pol. Lt. Gen. Surachate said.
Officials of Thailand's Action Taskforce for Information Technology Crime Suppression have arrested the eight suspects and brought them to Prawet police station for legal action in collaboration with public prosecutors and the Anti-Money Laundering Office, he said.
