Myanmar's ruling party holds central committee meeting

YANGON, Feb. 23 (Xinhua) -- Myanmar's ruling National League for Democracy (NLD) began its second regular meeting of its Central Committee (CC) in Yangon Saturday.

Nai Thaung Nyunt, chairperson of the meeting, called for unity in working for the welfare of the Myanmar people.

He stressed the need to strive for winning in the 2020 general election in order to continue the party's implementations for better development in the country.

Along with 130 members of the central committee, regional and state chief ministers and parliament speakers, chairmen of regions and state executive committees attended the first day of the two-day meeting which was held at the party headquarters.

The NLD was established in 1988 amid then political crisis with Aung San Suu Kyi as then general secretary.

In the last general election on Nov. 8, 2015, the NLD won an absolute majority of parliamentary seats.
