MUMBAI, April 10 (Xinhua) -- India's Election Commission on Wednesday issued a ban on the release of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's biopic until the Parliamentary elections are over.
As per the commission's order, any biopic "which has the potential to disturb the level playing field during the elections should not be displayed in the electronic media including cinematograph during the operation of MCC."
MCC stands for Model Code of Conduct prescribed by the Election Commission for all political parties participating in the Parliamentary polls.
The order comes a day ahead of the release of the film coinciding with the commencement of the first out of the seven phase election. The order was a fall-out of the country's Supreme Court on Tuesday reacting to a petition filed by the opposition Congress party leader who stated that it was for the Election Commission to decide if the film aided the balance in favor of the ruling BJP.
