BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN, May 9 (Xinhua) -- Brunei appointed former Singapore Under-19 coach Robbie Servais as head coach of the sultanate's football team, local daily reported on Thursday.
The Borneo Bulletin said that Servais has been hired on a short-term basis for six weeks to lead the team to the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 and AFC Asian Cup 2023 joint qualification round 1 two-leg matches against Mongolia on June 6 and 11.
The Dutchman will be introduced to his pool of players, and is expected to name his 23-man squad at the end of May.
The team will then head off to China for friendlies against Chinese professional clubs.
"We go there not only to get used to the climate but also the opponents as well. Mongolian players are a little bit stronger than us so we need to have one or two games against similar teams," Servais was quoted as saying.
