TOKYO, Feb. 27 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks closed higher Tuesday, with the benchmark Nikkei stock index closing at a near one-month high as investor sentiment was lifted by U.S. shares advancing overnight.
The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average added 236.23 points, or 1.07 percent, from Monday to close the day at 22,389.86, marking its highest closing level since Feb. 1.
The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, added 15.53 points, or 0.88 percent, to end at 1,790.34.
Mining, electric appliance and insurance-related issues comprised those that gained the most by the close of play.
