SHIBERGHAN, Afghanistan, Sept. 7 (Xinhua) -- Seven police officers lost their lives as Taliban insurgents stormed some security checkpoints in Mangajek district of Afghanistan's northern Jawzjan province on Friday, head of Provincial Council, Babir Eshci said.
"A group of Taliban rebels attacked some security checkpoints in Mangajek district in the wee hours of Friday triggering gun battle which lasted for several hours and resulted in killing seven police personnel facilitating the militants to gain ground," Eshchi told Xinhua.
Taliban militants have also suffered casualties in the fighting, the official said.
However, he warned that the embattled Mangajek district would collapse if the government fails to send reinforcement.
Meantime, Taliban outfit has confirmed the clash and asserted that the militants had captured two security checkpoints besides inflicting casualties on security personnel.
