CAIRO, Dec. 18 (Xinhua) -- The Arab League (AL) Council on Tuesday held an emergency session at the level of permanent delegates for discussing the recent Israeli escalations against Palestinian people, official news agency MENA reported.

The meeting came upon request by the Palestinian authority in light of the serious escalations in the occupied West Bank.

"The Arab League Council would also address the crimes committed by Israeli settlers against Palestinian people and their property in the West Bank," MENA added.

Acting Palestinian Ambassador to the Arab League Mohannad al-Alouk said "we are renewing the call for providing international protection to the Palestinian civilians."

He added the meeting will also seek to coordinate stances with Arab countries to take a decision to hinder the serious turn in the Brazilian stance regarding the Palestinian issue.

"We will discuss Brazilian president's anticipated recognition of Jerusalem as the capital of Israel in addition to a similar stance adopted by Australia," al-Alouk said.

President-elect Jair Bolsonaro on Nov. 1 said "I intend to transfer the Brazilian embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem. Israel is a sovereign state and we shall duly respect that."
