Myanmar, Vietnam to cooperate in crime prevention

YANGON, Feb. 26 (Xinhua) -- Myanmar and Vietnam have signed a bilateral agreement on cooperation in crime prevention and fighting transnational crimes, the Ministry of Home Affairs said on Tuesday.

The signing of the agreement by Myanmar Minister of Home Affairs Lt. Gen. Kyaw Swe and visiting Vietnamese Minister of Public Security Gen. To Lam in Myanmar's capital of Nay Pyi Taw on Monday followed a discussion on bilateral cooperation in security, rule of law, fighting transnational crimes including drug and human trafficking, terrorism, and promotion of the capacity of police and investigation.

The ministerial meeting was the third of its kind of security cooperation between the two countries.

Prior to their meeting, Myanmar President U Win Myint met with the Vietnamese minister, during which they discussed about the implementation of Myanmar's national reconciliation and internal peace, regional development in Rakhine state, regional cooperation in Southeast Asia and global cooperation.
